THEATRE

STAND UP COMEDY

Live music, singers and bands

Practical Productions is a Channel Island and London production house which produces a number of Professional theatre productions each year.. We tend to have a mix of established plays and new writing, all performed by a professional cast of actors. We are not a Rep Company, and therefore we audition actors as and when we require them. We also run a large comedy club (600 seater) at Guernsey’s Beau Sejour Theatre and can obtain most UK circuit comedians for your individual needs. All of whom play the Comedy Store and Jongleurs each week.

We work closely with new playwrights and have a commitment to use actors in each cast who haven’t been to drama school in the traditional sense, maybe attending part time courses etc. and giving them their first professional theatre break, alongside ‘Old theatre pros’. We operate a fair audition process, with each actor invited to a timed meeting and given a few days to prepare and given a section of the script to work from. We are also keen to hear from set, sound & light designers who may wish to work alongside our team, and help design the lights and sound for some of our productions. As a helper in these fields all we can offer is expenses, but what you get is a chance to have your work as a designer seen in a pro theatre setting. One of our directors, who is a paid member of the team, started off like this with us. We have another who is a highly respected BBC TV drama director who just wanted a chance to assist in live theatre, an area they had no concept of or previous training in.

We use a number of agents to source actors, as well as placing adverts on ‘UKscreen’ and ‘Mandy.com’. We also have a habit of attending many fringe theatre productions in London and at the Edinburgh Festival, where we talent spot for our shows.

We also work with a number of bands, singers and musicians and can provide self contained evening entertainment which is perfect for private parties, weddings and pubs and clubs. We only use top professional singers and bands and they play a range of covers from the 70’s to current chart hits.

We don’t have a style of theatre play we produce. We like serious drama to farce, Other productions this year will include possibly ‘Educating Rita’, also a new commissioned play on the second world war traitor Lord Haw Haw, and another from the John Godber stable.
